The quilted Modus Coat is our favourite piece from the Anthropologist Collection. The art of quilting dates back as far as ancient Egypt, and it was once a technique employed by skilled tailors to make ornate garments for royalties. Today, padded garments are mainly found in functional or athletic outerwear, but we wanted to apply this technique in an elevated everyday design. The result is a lightweight, airy piece that feels as soft as clouds.
The Japanese cotton and yak wool we blend used as the shell fabric also contributes to the warmth and softness of this piece. Though not as commonly sought after, yak fibres are just as luxurious as cashmere fibres. In fact, the former has the added bonus of being more sustainable. Yak are raised by nomadic herders in Mongolia, and these hardy little animals are gentler on the land than their goat counterparts. A large source of wool stems from countries like Mongolia, but overgrazing has brought on the threats of desertification.
We enjoyed each step of designing this coat, and we hope it will bring you tons of comfort and warmth!
